Report: Tony Romo’s Blood-Alcohol Level Was Nearly Twice the Legal Limit

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and CBS broadcaster Tony Romo had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.15% when he was arrested in Wisconsin for operating while intoxicated, according to a Milwaukee television report citing court records.

Court Records Detail Romo’s BAC

WTMJ reported that Romo’s blood-alcohol level was nearly twice Wisconsin’s legal driving limit of 0.08%.

Following his arrest, Romo initially indicated that he was unwilling to submit to breath testing. However, the reported court records show that his blood-alcohol concentration was subsequently measured.

The BAC information became public in connection with Romo’s no-contest plea to operating while intoxicated.

Romo Faces Fine and License Suspension

Under the terms of the case, Romo will pay $834 in fines and have his driver’s license suspended for six months.

He must also attend and complete an alcohol assessment program. After his driving privileges are restored, Romo will be required to install an ignition interlock device in his vehicle for at least one year.

Ignition Interlock Required After Reinstatement

An ignition interlock device requires a driver to provide a breath sample before a vehicle can start. Such devices are commonly ordered in alcohol-related driving cases as a condition for regaining driving privileges.

Romo Addresses Alcohol Use and CBS Future

Romo issued a statement announcing his plea and said he had developed an “over-reliance” on alcohol. He also expressed his intention to return to CBS.

The former quarterback has worked as an NFL game analyst for the network since retiring from professional football. He spent his entire playing career with the Cowboys before moving into broadcasting.

Romo’s no-contest plea resolves the OWI charge while leaving him subject to financial penalties, a six-month license suspension, an alcohol assessment and at least one year of ignition interlock requirements after his license is reinstated.
