At least six people, including one killed, were shot at a Waffle House in Indianapolis early Monday morning.
A spokesman for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the shooting occurred around 12:40 a.m. at the popular chain restaurant during a fight between two groups.
A woman was critically injured in the shooting and later died at the hospital, police said.
Three men and another woman suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to area hospitals in stable condition.
A fourth person, who arrived at the hospital on his own, is in critical condition, police said.
The fatal incident occurred outside a packed Waffle House location, both inside and outside the establishment.
Police are searching for surveillance footage and witnesses. Officials said the breakfast joint in the southwest part of the city was crowded when the shooting began. WTHR reported.
“Primarily, detectives believe the incident began with a disturbance between two groups of people that escalated into gunfire,” Lt. Shane Foley said in a statement to The Post. “It is not clear whether any of the injured were the shooters. That will be part of what detectives are trying to determine.
No arrests had been made as of early Monday morning.
Indianapolis has been packed with visitors for the past few days leading up to the NBA's All-Star weekend, which ended Sunday night.
