Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign will release information about her medical history and health on Saturday, a senior aide said.
It was an attempt to create a contrast between the 59-year-old Democratic nominee and his 78-year-old Republican rival, Donald Trump, over his own medical history.
Harris’ statement concluded: “He possesses the physical and mental stamina necessary to successfully discharge the duties of the presidency, including that of chief executive, head of state and commander-in-chief.”
Age was a major concern for voters when President Joe Biden, 81, sought re-election. His exit from the race in July opened the door to blame on the biographical difference that Democrats had previously tried to downplay.
In November 2023, Trump posted a letter on social media from his doctor, Bruce Aronwald, in which the doctor said Trump’s “overall health is excellent.”
“His physical exams were within the normal range and his cognitive exams were exceptional,” Aronwald wrote.
Trump has not released his actual medical records, and references to his health in the past have often used hyperbolic language.
Harris has never released his medical records. She has said on social media that her late mother Shyamala Gopalan Harris – who died of colon cancer in 2009 – worked as a breast cancer researcher and advocated for breast cancer screening.
