After 172 days, NFL football is back. The 2022 season kicked off with the annual Hall of Fame Game showdown between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Las Vegas Raiders. It might be early season, but the Raiders were in midseason form at the start of Thursday night’s game. Las Vegas scored on its first three drives to take a 20-0 lead.
Leading 6–0, the Raiders scored their first touchdown of the season on Ameer Abdullah’s eight-yard touchdown less than two minutes into the second quarter. Las Vegas capped its stellar first half with a 12-yard run by Jared Stid with 1:34 left until halftime.
Among the big early stands for the Raiders was running back Jameer White, who had 37 yards on seven carries and 27 yards on two catches. The Jaguars’ best player in the first half was Arden Key, who racked up two sacks against his former team.
Thursday night’s game marks the start of a new era for both clubs. New Jaguars coach Doug Pederson hopes to work similar magic in Jacksonville after helping deliver Philadelphia its first Lombardi Trophy five years ago. Looking to make a similar impact in Las Vegas is Josh McDaniels, who joins the Raiders following a very successful run with the New England Patriots.
