Authorities say three people have been killed after more than a dozen people were injured in a shooting Saturday night in Philadelphia.
Emergency crews responded at midnight to an area near the intersection of Third and South Streets where there were “multiple active shooters,” Philadelphia Police said.
“Hundreds of people were enjoying South Street every weekend when the shootings took place,” Inspector DF Pace told reporters.
Officers arrived at the scene and saw a man firing on a crowd of people, and an officer fired three shots, police said.
Police recovered two guns at the scene, one of which contained an extended newspaper, but was not arrested, Pace said.
Police said at least 14 people were shot. Authorities had earlier said 13 people were injured.
A hospital spokesman said seven people injured in the shooting had been taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. The hospital said one died on the way and four were in stable condition.
The other victims have been taken to two additional hospitals, police said.
