The news came an hour and a half after Kensington Palace announced that the Princess of Wales was recovering in hospital after stomach surgery and would be out of official duties for up to three months.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “Common to thousands of men each year, the King seeks treatment for an enlarged prostate.

“His Majesty's health is stable and he will go to hospital next week for treatment. The King's public appearances will be postponed for a while to allow him to recover.

Buckingham Palace said the king will return to hospital next week to be treated for an enlarged prostate gland.

Kate, 42, was admitted to a London clinic on Tuesday (January 16) for planned stomach surgery. Kensington Palace declared.

The future queen will spend another 10 to 14 days in the hospital before recovering at home.

The Princess of Wales last attended the Royal Family's Christmas Day church service at Sandringham with her family.

He called on people to protect each other, delivered a powerful message about the environment and praised volunteers who serve communities across the country.

A palace spokesman said: “The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this report is generating.

“She hopes the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normalcy as possible for her children; and she wants her personal medical information to remain private.”

“Therefore, Kensington Palace will only provide updates on His Royal Highness's progress when there is significant new information to share.

“The Princess of Wales would like to apologize to all involved for postponing her upcoming engagements.

“She looks forward to being rehired as soon as possible.”

The palace refused to confirm what treatment Kate was being given, but confirmed the condition was not cancerous.

Kate remains close to her family, and her parents Carole and Michael Middleton and siblings Pippa Matthews and James Middleton are on hand to support her recovery at their Wales home in Windsor.

The palace said the princess could recover for two to three months and is not expected to return to public duties after Easter based on current medical advice.

The Prince of Wales will not undertake official duties while his wife is in hospital and immediately after her return home.

The heir to the throne, William, will be at Kate's side to look after their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Princess Louise, and she has postponed several engagements.
