Former President Donald Trump He is expected to launch his 2024 presidential campaign on Tuesday night, an attempt to seize momentum and a lead in the currently vacant Republican presidential primary field.

Deciding to make his announcement from the ballroom of his private Palm Beach club, Mar-a-Lago, Trump is defying the advice of key Republicans who have warned against launching a presidential campaign after the GOP’s disappointing midterm election results.

Trump’s entry into the race unofficially kicks off the 2024 Republican presidential race, which has changed dramatically in the past week.

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ 19-point victory on Nov. 8 in his re-election campaign electrified Republicans across the country, becoming the bright spot of a day where Democrats won top Senate and governor races.

DeSantis is reportedly assembling a presidential campaign team and preparing to challenge Trump for the GOP nomination. Before last week, DeSantis was a long shot for president in 2024, but after Tuesday, he was a strong contender.

If Trump wins the Republican nomination, he will face President Joe Biden again in the 2020 presidential election. Biden has yet to formally launch his re-election campaign, but plans for the campaign have reportedly solidified in recent weeks.
