College football scores, games, updates: Marshall at Ohio State, NC State at Clemson and more

Week 4 of the college football season marks the start of conference play for many teams and includes two games between teams ranked in the top 15. Both of those matches will be crucial at the end of the season.

Here are the biggest games left on Saturday.

Time: 3:30 pm | TV: CBS | Line: USC -6 | Total: 44.5

After Davis Warren started the first three games and was mostly ineffective, Michigan will start Alex Orji at quarterback against the Trojans. The Wolverines will likely employ a run-heavy attack, which will test a USC defense that suddenly looks more ferocious.

Time: 4 pm | TV: Fox | Line: Oklahoma State -2.5 | Total: 52.5

All signs point to Cameron Rising playing against the Cowboys after missing Utah’s Week 3 win against Utah State. That’s big news for a game that could go a long way toward deciding the top spot in the Big 12 standings. The Cowboys are favored at home after holding Utah on the line as a slight favorite earlier in the week.

Time: 7:30 pm | TV: ABC | Line: Tennessee -7 | Total: 57.5

Former Oklahoma QB and assistant Josh Heubel returned to Norman as head coach of the Volunteers on Saturday night. UT QB Nico Iamaleava has become an early Heisman favorite with his play thus far, and that high-powered offense will put pressure on Oklahoma QB Jackson Arnold.

    Scoreboard update

  • Halftime: Ohio State 28, Marshall 14

After a lengthy review just before halftime, the catch by Marshall’s Elijah Metcalf was ruled a touchdown. Thundering Herd 14 down at halftime.

  • Halftime: Clemson 45, NC State 7

The Tigers used a field goal just before halftime to make it 45-7. Awesome display from Dabo Swinney’s team. Clemson has now outscored opponents 111-27 in its last six quarters.

  • Clemson adds a TD before the half

Clemson took time on that drive before Jay Haynes scored on a 19-yard run. We’re nearing halftime in Death Valley, and Dave Doran’s Wolfpack can’t get into the locker room soon enough.

  • James Madison placed it at UNC

The most surprising and exciting game of this early window is James Madison-North Carolina. The Dukes took advantage of UNC’s second fumble to extend its lead to 46-21 with almost half the second quarter to play.

  • Ohio State touchdown

The Buckeyes add to their lead when TreVeyon Henderson breaks a pair of tackles and takes it for a 14-yard touchdown.

  • Touchdown Clemson

The Tigers reply to extend their lead back to 28 points. This time Cole Turner took it back 18 yards to the end for a score. Dabo Swinney should be happy with his team’s offensive explosion early in this game.

  • Touchdown Ohio State!

Quinshawn Judkins ripped off a monster run to extend the Buckeyes’ lead, running 86 yards for a touchdown.

  • Florida Miss State jumped out to an early 21-7 lead

Meanwhile, with all the heat surrounding Billy Napier at Florida, the Gators will be in action early against Mississippi State. Embattled QB Graham Mertz was 15-for-16 with 147 passing yards and 3 TDs.

  • Touchdown NC State

The Wolfpack is finally on the board after that poor first quarter. They put together a respectable 9-play, 71-yard drive capped by a 5-yard TD pass from CJ Bailey to Jordan Waters.

  • Touchdown Ohio State

Six plays later, the Buckeyes are in the end zone on Will Howard’s goal line drop. It was Ohio State’s first lead of the game.

  • Marshall went for fourth-and-1 at its own 45-yard line and didn’t get it. It’s a bold, early call that might bite the thundering herd.

  • Interception Marshall!

Thundering Heart didn’t back down early on. Marshall’s Josh Moton beat OSU’s Will Howard with a nice play on a deep ball.

  • Clemson turnovers, forcing punts again

The Tigers recovered by forcing another fumble. One play later, they’re back in the huddle — this time it’s a 38-yard TD run by Phil Maffa, who appears to be back in the game after an injury scare. It’s getting out of hand, and it’s still in the first quarter.

  • Ohio State strikes again!

The Buckeyes’ response was more efficient when the Thundering Herd scored 13 plays. It took them two plays, and Emeka Ekbuka did most of the work with a 68-yard TD reception.

  • Clemson gets a strip sack and scores again

What a disastrous start for the Wolfpack. NC State’s QB CJ Bailey took a backhand fumble that was recovered by the Tigers deep in Wolfpack territory. Clemson added to its lead with another TD pass from Kate Klubnik to Antonio Williams.

  • Touchdown Clemson

On the second possession of the game for the Tigers, Kate Klubnick found Antonio Williams for a 31-yard touchdown. RB Phil Mafah suffered a shoulder injury during the run, which is not good news.
