David Portnoy has hit back at Swifties claims he is a fake fan of the pop superstar, revealing he received a handwritten letter from Taylor Swift.
The founder of Barstool Sports is a longtime fan of the singer. Portnoy attended Eras Tour At MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, she recounted her experience on BFF’s podcast in June 2023. He publicly supported Swift in her celebrity feuds with Scooter Braun, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
On Sunday, Portnoy spoke about his experience attending his second Swift concert on Saturday night. Eras Tour In Miami. Uploading a video to Instagram, he said the concert was “sexy”, but the night was dampened by a video a woman posted of him online.
Newsweek Spokesmen for Swift and Portnoy were emailed outside normal business hours on Monday.
“It was an amazing night and I should be on cloud 9, but this girl recently went viral and trashed me, ‘Swifties must hate this guy, and most importantly, Taylor’s camp hates Dave and they never talk to him. [or] Reached,” Portnoy said in the clip.
“They said I had never been to a concert, not true, this was my second concert Eras Tour. But it should have been a night of celebration, and this girl, though, should have kind of rained on my parade, like, ‘They don’t like you.'”
He then inserted a video of the clip he was referring to, where a woman said Swift’s team had no access to Portnoy, Barstool Sports or anything related to the entrepreneur, who she said was a “performance Swifty.”
“I got the VIP section, which was amazing. You know, I wanted to come and talk about this letter, Austin Swift, her brother—13 people there, and I obviously opened it—was hand-delivered to me in the VIP section. From Taylor,” Portnoy continued.
“But this woman said, ‘Oh Taylor hates him, they don’t want him there, they don’t want him.’ This letter from Taylor was hand delivered to me in the VIP section.”
Portnoy held up the envelope that contained the note, sealed in green wax and bearing the 14-time Grammy winner’s lucky number 13. He then pretended the note came from “Taylor Swift’s desk. ,” before reading.
“‘Dave, I’m so glad you’re on the show tonight! I just wanted to say thank you for always being so supportive, so loyal, and having my back when a lot of people weren’t. I hope you have a blast. Tonight was a blast!! Love, Taylor,'” Portnoy read from the star. .
“That must have been the highlight, right?” He continued. “Taylor was writing me this hand-delivered note or maybe, her mother Andrea came over and Austin was like, ‘Hey, my mom wants to meet you.’ We had a real hug, almost in tears, a real hug.”
Portnoy said Swift’s mother told him the family appreciates the support she has shown Swift over the years. She also said that Swift’s publicist, Tree Paine, is “amazing.” However, the woman couldn’t stop thinking about the video she made of him and slammed her for thinking “she’s the Swifties’ gatekeeper”. He said he could ask Payne to ban the woman from future Swift concerts if he wanted to — but he wanted to keep things “positive.”
He concluded: “I think Taylor would want me to take the high road, but how I act, Taylor Swift’s camp wants nothing to do with me, I’ll talk to this girl about let’s practice love, let’s practice love. .
“Yeah, I had the time of my life, yeah, I can’t believe I’m in Austin, yeah I haven’t met Taylor, but I don’t think she meets people when she’s acting. It means so much more. It’s time to write a handwritten letter … so Yes, I would say it was one of the best nights I’ve had in a long time.”
Portnoy has shown her support for Swift over the years, and took to Barstool Sports founder X (formerly Twitter) to let fans know her thoughts after the singer endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris via Instagram on September 10. The singer doesn’t change who she votes for.
“People who are the king of Swifties are asking me what I think about his Kamala endorsement. I don’t care. People can vote for whoever they want in this country. No matter how someone votes, it doesn’t change my opinion of someone.” He posted.
Portnoy confirmed that he would vote for Republican nominee Donald Trump: “I vote for everybody a different way.”
