Arch Manning’s Heisman Trophy chances now look ridiculous after his five-touchdown performance against UTSA.
Manning threw four touchdowns and ran for another in relief of Quinn Evers in the No. 2 Longhorns’ 56-7 blowout victory. Evers left the game in the second quarter with what coach Steve Sarkisian said was an abdominal strain and did not return. Meanwhile, Manning threw a TD pass in his first game and ran 67 yards for a TD in his third.
There is currently no timeline for Evers’ injury, but that hasn’t stopped bettors from buying Manning’s Heisman futures. Manning is now somehow the No. at +1600 at BetMGM. Ranked 7th. Meanwhile, Evers wasn’t on the team until Sunday morning after entering Week 3 as the Heisman favorite.
In case you were wondering, Manning was +10000 to win the Heisman before the game even started.
Manning’s inconsistencies are an overreaction to being one half of football against an overmatched opponent. Manning entered the game in the second quarter and was followed by a layup by Trey Owens in the fourth to put the Longhorns up 56-7. Yes, he played well. But his realistic chances of winning the Heisman, even if Evers misses a significant period, don’t match his odds this time around.
Miami QB Cam Ward is now the favorite at +450 following a big game against Ball State. The Hurricanes routed the Cardinals 62-0 and saw Ward go 19-for-28 from the sidelines for 346 yards and five touchdowns.
Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart and Alabama QB Jalen Milroe are No. at +700. 2 favorites. Dart threw for 377 yards and three total touchdowns in the 5th-ranked Rebels’ 40-6 win over Wake Forest, while Milrow scored a touchdown in Wisconsin’s No. 4 scored five total touchdowns in Alabama’s easy 42-10 win.
