We tracked every first-round trade involved The 2023 NFL Draft saw eight of the first 15 picks change hands — including the No. 1 pick that the Chicago Bears gave to the Carolina Panthers. These trades date back more than two years, when the Los Angeles Rams sent their first-rounder to the Detroit Lions as part of a package to acquire quarterback Matthew Stafford.

The veteran quarterback isn’t the only big-name quarterback in the first round of this year’s draft. Trades for Russell Wilson, Trey Lance and Deshaun Watson will have an impact, not to mention Monday’s trade between the Green Bay Packers and the New York Jets involving Aaron Rodgers.

Here are all the draft pick deals for this year’s first-day picks, including one pick on its fourth team. It would be the No. 29 pick that went from the San Francisco 49ers to the Miami Dolphins to the Denver Broncos to the New Orleans Saints in deals that included Lance, edge rusher Bradley Chubb and new Broncos coach Sean Payton.

Here are the trades made on the first day of the NFL Draft, starting with the most recent:

Date: April 27, 2023

The Detroit Lions traded a first-round pick (No. 6) to the Arizona Cardinals for a first-rounder (No. 12) and a second-rounder (No. 34). No. The 6 pick was originally traded from the Los Angeles Rams to the Lions in the Matthew Stafford trade, while the Cardinals took the No. 12 pick in the first round from the Houston Texans. The Cardinals used the pick to draft Ohio State offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr.

In a deal that included quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Jets sent a bunch of picks to the Packers, including their first-rounder this year (No. 13). The Panthers traded four draft picks and wide receiver DJ Moore to Pierce for the No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft. Pierce got Carolina’s first-rounder this year (No. 9), second-rounder (No. 61), the Panthers’ first-round pick in 2024 and a second-round pick in 2025 with Moore. Alabama used the Panthers No. 1 pick on the quarterback Bryce Young.


Date: Jan. 31, 2023

The No. 29 pick found its fourth home as the Broncos sent it to the Saints as part of a package for former New Orleans coach Sean Payton. Saints no. 29 pick — which was originally sent from the 49ers to the Dolphins as part of the Trey Lance trade and then from the Dolphins to the Broncos in the Bradley Zubb deal — and Denver’s 2024 second-round pick for Payton and the Saints’ third-round pick in 2024.


Date: November 1, 2022

The Dolphins are this year’s No. 29 pick, Chase Edmonds and a 2024 fourth-round pick to the Broncos for Bradley Chubb and a 2025 fifth-round pick. The Dolphins first picked the 49ers in 2021 from the No. Received 29 picks, which allowed the 49ers to draft quarterback Trae Lance.

The Los Angeles Rams led the way to their Super Bowl LVI championship with quarterback Jared Goff, a third-round pick in 2021 and first-round picks in 2022 (No. 32) and 2023 for quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Detroit Lions. The Lions used the 2022 pick to trade with the Minnesota Vikings to draft wide receiver Jameson Williams.
