The second-round under-67 prompted world No. 1 Scott Scott Scheffler to co-lead the 122nd US Open. Struggling outside the gates on Friday, Texan caught fire in the middle of the ninth on his back, playing four holes in the bottom 4, which was halted by the eagle on Bar-5 14.
Scheffler now finds his name alongside Nick Hardy, who signed in rounds 69-68. The other four men occupy the top of the Leaderboard and have yet to start their second round, including four-time big champion Rory McIlroy. Having successfully defended his RBC Canadian Open title, the Northern Irishman was almost flawless on his way to the first round without boogie through 17 holes.
McIlroy will overtake Scheffler in a strong second round. John Rahm, Colin Morikawa, Will Saladoris and Max Homa were able to play themselves in the red with their Thursday performances, and expect much more of the same this afternoon. With a lot of action yet to come, these Titans of the game will confirm their claim to this championship.
