AVON PARK - Angel Santiago-Velez was arrested Friday night for attempting to abduct an Avon Park jogger Oct. 4, according to a press release from the Highlands County Sheriff's Office.
At about 9:30 p.m. Friday, Santiago-Velez, 37, of 636 Barberry Loop in Avon Park, was arrested by the crime suppression team and the criminal investigations unit with the sheriff's office.
He is charged with attempted armed kidnapping and aggravated assault with a firearm.
The original incident happened at about 6 a.m. Oct. 4, as the intended victim was jogging near Walmart and Shop 16 Road in Avon Park. A vehicle pulled up beside her and the suspect ordered the jogger to get in his car at gunpoint. The jogger didn't comply and ran to a nearby Ford dealership to escape.
Santiago-Velez is currently being held in the Highlands County Jail under no bond.
