COMPAINT: PORN FILMED IN FLORIDA LACKS CONDOMS
A health organization that pushed for a Los Angeles County law mandating condom use in the porn industry has filed a sanitary nuisance complaint with the state Health Department over a film apparently made in South Florida without condom use. The group says they don't want adult film performers to be exposed to health risks.
DOLPHINS OWNER DONATES $200 MILLION TO UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
Stephen Ross is donating $200 million to his alma mater to be split between its business school and athletics programs. It's the largest single donation in the school's history. The gift raises the total Ross has donated to U. of Michigan to more than $313 million.
LAWMAKERS HOLD HEARING ON SEX OFFENDER LAWS
The mother of an 8-year-old girl who was murdered after being abducted at a Wal-Mart is pleading with lawmakers to toughen sex offender laws. Rayne Perrywinkle angrily spoke Wednesday at a legislative hearing on sex offender laws. She said if nothing is done now, more children like her daughter Cherish will be killed.
FOR VENEZUELAN JEWS, A NEW HOME FOR ROSH HASHANAH
Thousands of Jewish Venezuelans are celebrating Rosh Hashanah in South Florida this year after fleeing the government of the late President Hugo Chavez, who was outspoken in his opposition to Israel. Jews in Venezuela faced intense hostility. The numbers vary, but most experts agree about half of the Jewish population in Venezuela or more has fled in the past decade.
BODY OF MISSING DIVER RECOVERED OFF PONCE DE LEON INLET
The body of a 28-year-old diver was recovered near the site he was last seen on Monday, during a Labor Day commercial fishing dive. Ryan Myers was with two others on a fishing vessel when he went into the ocean with only 30 minutes of air in a tank. He never resurfaced.
