WAUCHULA - An unidentified person was exposed to an unknown substance and is currently under treatment at Florida Hospital Wauchula, according to Beverly Whaley, of the Emergency Operations Center for Hardee County.

The hospital is in a state of general "lockdown" and patients, staff and visitors are prevented from leaving while no one may enter the site, said Cathy Albritton, director of marketing/public relations at Florida Hospital.

Whaley said the hospital is currently decontaminating its emergency room.
Albritton said that the hospital officials expect that the type of substance will soon be learned.
"We're trying to determine what chemical the person was sprayed with," said Albritton.
The Polk County Hazardous Materials Team assisted. The hospital has not released the site of the original decontamination.

Albritton also said at 3 p.m. that the patient, who was brought to the hospital sometime before 1 p.m., was in "good condition."
