Lil Monsters of the Midway

Published:

The Mid Florida Football and Cheer Conference (MFFCC) youth football started its 2013 season this past Saturday. The Avon Park Red Devils won all three of their games against Okeechobee while the Sebring Blue Streaks won three-of-five against Frostproof.

Avon Park was limited to three games against Okeechobee's B Team, the Lil Brahmans, as the Red Devils do not currently have a senior team and the Lil Brahmans did not have a junior team.

In the flag football game, Christopher Martin, JayShon Evans, and Eric Williams each scored a touchdown to lead Avon Park past Okeechobee by a score of 18-6.

The Mitey Mite and Pee Wee games featured little excitement, as Avon Park trounced the outmanned Okeechobee team in both games.

Travis Kerney and Arkyse Howard scored three touchdowns apiece as the Red Devils scored with ease in a 43-0 win over the Lil Brahmans.

The Pee Wee game was even less competitive, as Avon Park's Jabari Knighten scored twice on runs of 77 and nine yards. Malcolm Dewberry added another touchdown on a 10 yard run while Shamar Hawthorne threw a 10 yard touchdown pass to Dylan Page to give Avon Park a 34-0 lead at the half.

Okeechobee's coach had seen enough by then, and threw up the white flag to signal calling the game on mercy rules.

Meanwhile, n Sebring, the Blue Streaks faced the Frostproof Bulldogs in the season opener. Sebring's flag team is the defending Super Bowl Champions, but this year got off to a shaky start, as they Blue Streaks fell to the Bulldogs, 20-13.

The Blue Streaks Mitey Mite team tallied the first win of the day for Sebring with a convincing 35-0 shutout of Frostproof.

Gregory Smith III got the hat trick, scoring twice on running plays and once more on a kickoff return. Maurice Deshaun Tucker, Jr. and Jayden Garrett also scored a touchdown in the win.

The Senior game was a defensive battle. Tied at zero until there were three minutes left in the game, Frostproof put together a drive that culminated in a one yard touchdown run by Alante Jaylon Outing to give Frostproof a 6-0 win over Sebring.

In the Pee Wee age group, Sebring earned its second victory of the afternoon with a 25-0 win over the Bulldogs. The Blue Streaks held a 12-0 halftime lead on two touchdown runs by Trenton Brown for 55 and seven yards.

Brown gave Sebring an 18-0 lead in the second half on a 42 yard touchdown run. Landen Campbell capped off the scoring with a 28 yard run in the fourth quarter.

The final game of the day started off with the promise of a high scoring, exciting game, as each Junior team scored quickly. Sebring got on the scoreboard first with a 70 yard touchdown scamper by Ryan Brown to take a 6-0 lead.

But Frostproof responded with a 33 yard touchdown run to tie it. It was all Sebring from there, as Brown added a second touchdown on a seven yard run and Jatavian Holder added two scores on runs of nine and 30 yards as the Blue Streaks built a 26-6 halftime lead.

Kamari Brown slammed the door shut on any potential Frostproof comeback when he reached the left sideline and streaked down field for a 54 yard touchdown to cap off a 32-6 Sebring victory.

Results of Lake Placid's games against Okeechobee's A Team Brahmans was not available at press time. Lake Placid will face Frostproof at Lake June on Saturday.

Avon Park and Sebring will also face off on Saturday in what should be an extremely competitive game between two high power organizations.

The first game kicks off at 9 a.m. at Memorial Field in Avon Park.
