Highlands Sheriff's Office looking for family members of beaten man

LAKE PLACID - The Highlands County Sheriff's Office is searching for any relatives of a local man who was beaten Oct. 6 and now is in critical condition in a Tampa hospital.

Eduardo Martinez, whose last address was 20 Mirwood Dr., in Lake Placid, was found on the roadway at Highlands Boulevard and Palm Beach Street at about 9 p.m. Oct. 6, according to a press release. A deputy found him badly beaten and he was transported to Florida Hospital Lake Placid, then on to Tampa General Hospital.

Besides looking for any relative of Martinez, the sheriff's office is looking for information on how he suffered the injuries. Detective Nathan Coogan of the Highlands County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Unit is heading up this investigation. He can be contacted at 863-402-7341 or 863-402-7250.
