Sweet Frogs whips Got Milk

— Sweet Frogs eliminated Got Milk by a score of 11-5 in the Dixie Boys (ages 13-14) City Tournament on Monday night at Max Long Complex.

“Putting the ball in play was the key to our win,” said Sweet Frogs Coach Israel Gomez. “We hit the ball really well and we got our defensive outs. The boys did what they were supposed to.”

Got Milk got on the board in the top of the first inning as Wade Gilbert lined a single to center field to plate J.C. Crenshaw for a 1-0 lead.

Sweet Frogs answered as Clint Patrick belted a home run over the left-field fence in the bottom of the frame.

Josh Rivera doubled and Marshall Bond smacked a base hit to plate Rivera for a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the second Got Milk rallied as Jace Lewis singled and Travis Hill doubled to left-center field top score Lewis to make it 2-2.

Sweet Frogs got rolling in the bottom of the inning as Danny Cardoso ripped an RBI single to plate Andrew Dula, Mike Brod raced home on a base hit by George Martinez and Cardoso scored on a throwing error to make it 6-2.

Got Milk rallied in the third inning as Jaylen Wheelock laced a two-run single to trim the deficit to 6-4.

Sweet Frogs kept the pressure on in the bottom of the third inning as Gabe Gomez singled, Bond singled and Luis Perez walked to load the bases.

Brod hit a single to score Gomez, Martinez plated a run with a ground ball and Brod scored for a 9-4 lead.

Clint Patrick started the bottom of the fourth off with a bang. Patrick hit a line drive to right-center field for a triple. Whitman singled to score Patrick for a commanding 10-4 lead.

Got Milk wouldn’t give up. In the top of the fifth inning Crenshaw tried to rally his team by hitting a rope to right-center field for a triple. Szoka lined a single to right field to plate Crenshaw.

In the bottom of the fifth, Perez walked, stole second and third base and scored on an error to make it 11-5.

Sweet Frogs held Got Milk scoreless in the final inning to seal the hard-fought win.

Sweet Frogs played Sebring Tractor Service for the Dixie Boys City Tournament championship.

The Dixie Boys state tournament is July 18 in Sebring at the Max Long Complex.
