The Heartland Soccer Club is holding tryouts for the U18/18 boys travel team at the Highlands County Sports Complex on Tuesday, June 25, between 5 and 6:30 p.m. Interested players who cannot attend are asked to come by the fields on Tuesday or Thursday prior to tryouts and speak to Coach Bowyer or Coach Smith. Inquiries can also be made through the club’s Facebook page. Games will begin in August and end in October.

The Highlands County NAACP will be holding its first annual golf tournament on Saturday, July 20, at Golf Hammock County Club. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and a shotgun start will take place at 8 a.m. Cost for the four-person scramble is $60 per player and includes lunch, prizes and contests. The South Florida State College Panthers will hold their annual Panther Softball Camp June 28 and 29. The camp is for players 6 to 18 years old and runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. Campers are asked to bring a glove, cap, bat and any softball attire desired. All items should be marked with the camper's name. Registration and check-in will begin at 8 a.m.

Cost of the camp is $45 per player. To register, go to the SFSC softball page at and print out the admissions application. Bring the form to the first day of camp or mail to the address listed on the forms. Pre-registration is not required. Lake Placid will be offering week-long swim classes for all ages and all experience levels. Swimmers can choose from one of six different swimming levels or an adults only class, parent and child class and there will be a class for preschool swimmers. Classes cost $25 per week. The YMCA is offering weekly Summer Camp through and Aug. 16. Camp hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include a wide range of activities like arts and crafts, gymnastics, a field trip, fitness and nutrition and many sports. Ages are 5 to 12 and camp fees are $20 for one time registration and weekly fees of $90 for members or $125 for non-members. Camp t-shirts, water bottle and a nutritional breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided. For more information please contact the YMCA at 382-9622.
