SEBRING - The summer heat and humidity couldn't stop the players on the Sertoma Junior Golf Tour from posting some solid scores in Thursday's event at golf Hammock Country Club.

Cole Berger of Lakeland carded a 74 to finish first in the boys 17-18 age group, while Rhett Pooley was a close second with a 76, Colin Walkup shot an 83, Terrell Williams came in at 85 and Dustin Baber fired an 87.

"That's some good playing by those guys," said Sertoma Junior Golf Tour Director and Sun 'n Lake Golf Club professional Andy Kesling. "Cole has been shooting in the 70s pretty consistently and it's good to see Rhett back because he's coming off a torn ACL."

In the girls 14-18 division, Morgan Baxendale shot a sizzling 71 to take first place, while 14-year-old Kendall Griffin carded a 76 to place second, Sarah Liles came in at 83, Meredith McKenna carded a 90 and Megan Crews shot a 95.

"Morgan is a friend of Kendall's and shot a really good score," Kesling said. "It's good to have these kids come from all over the state because it raises the competition level and that's what we want to see."

In the boys 15-16 age group, Colin Kresl cruised to first place with a fine score of 75, Nic Staffieri came in second place with a 79, Sam Rogers had an 81, Andrew Wally carded an 82 and Mathhew Arnan and Cory Franks tied at 86.

"This was Colin's first tournament of the summer," Kesling said. "We're getting some kids to play that haven't been out so far and that's good to see."

Seth Hamilton won the boys 13-14 age group, which played nine holes, with a 48, Scott Hamilton was second at 50, Julian Crozier shot a 54 and Carson Warner carded a 65.

In the boys 11-12 division, Beckhan Donovan finished first with a 49, Will Redding carded a 54, David Herbert shot a 58, Colby Gadsden shot a 59, Jackson Griffin came in at 60 and Josh Bible fired a 66.

"Beckham didn't shoot his best score of the year but still managed to finish first," Kesling said. "He's 10 years old and playing up and is still dominating the group."

Zach Doorlag cruised to first place in the boys 9-10 age group with a 49, Billy Carol placed second with a 54, Jaxson Davis shot a 55 and Avery Hurst and Clay Jacobs tied at 59.

In the girls 11-13 division, Ashley Engle rolled to a first place finish with a score of 55 for nine holes, while Hannah Revell shot a 68 and Alyssa Armentrout came in third place with a 70.

In the boys/girls 6-8 age group, which played six hole from 200 yards out, Parker Griffin finished first with a score of 33, Jack DuPriest and Brody Hall tied for second place after each shot a 38, Jay Walkup came in at 42 and Jarrett Hornick shot a 43.

The next Sertoma Junior Golf Tour event is the Bill Jarrett Ford Match Play Championships on Thursday and Friday at River Greens Golf Club.

"I'm really looking forward to the next week's event because it's my favorite one of the summer," Kesling said. "Match play is completely different from stroke play and we usually have some surprises.

"Bill Jarrett does so many things for the community and the Sertoma Junior Golf Tour and we can't thank him and the staff at River Greens enough."
