Is there a more perfect place for golf this time of year than the Heartland?
Meals On Wheels doesn't think so.
The organization's local chapter held its annual golf tournament over the weekend at Sun 'n Lakes Golf Club in Sebring. Sponsored by Alan Jay Automotive, the four-person scramble, now in its 14th year, serves to raise awareness about hungry seniors as well as to gather funds to help needy people fed with nutritional meals.
"The tournament was played on our lush Deer Run golf course," said Sun 'n Lake Certified Professional Andy Kesling. "The weather was gorgeous and all the players had a great time."
Despite having a lower turnout than previous years, the cause was as strong as ever.
"Although participation was low, the organization was able to raise some money, making the event a success," Kesling said.
Close to 40 people played Deer Run, comprising nine teams.
Adele Dornheim, Denver Ferry, Barb Hacket, and Karen Jacobs carded the day's lowest score, shooting a sizzling 65.
On the basis of matching cards, Jim Pottorf, James Denefield, Jim Pattori, and Kevin Harris combined their talents to finish in second place, shooting a 68.
Coming in third was Jim Serwas, Dave Lindstrom, Bob O'Neal, and Roy Allen, who combined for a 68.
