Low scores in Sottile tournament

LAKE PLACID - A stellar field of 100 golfers took advantage of ideal scoring conditions to shoot some low scores in Saturday's Lake Placid Athletic Association/ Nick Sottile Memorial Tournament at Placid Lakes Country Club.

The 18-hole tournament used a four-person scramble format and the talented foursome of Dan Coomes, Nathan Coomes, Mike Moore and Darin Sapp finished first in the First Flight low gross division with a score of 19-under par.

The group of Jeff Weber, Joel Weber, Leroy Kaylor and Steve Young were first in the First Flight low net division with a score of 46.6.

In the Second flight, Smokey Smiling, Mark Cram, Dino Cram and Tom Nemeth won the low gross division with a score of 11-under par.

Ricky Carnahan, Taylor Wells, Logan smith and Justin Duncan finished first in the Second Flight low net division with a score of 45.0.

Gene Spires won the closest-to-the-pin contest on hole No. 13 with a shot that finished 2-feet, 3 inches from the hole.

Joel Weber won the straightest drive contest on hole No. 18.

The proceeds from the annual tournament goes to help athletics in Lake Placid and the athletic programs at Lake Placid High School.

After the round, the 100 competitors were treated to a fabulous feast.
