Low scores at Citrus Growers tourney

The annual Highlands County Citrus Growers Association golf tournament enjoyed great weather and the field of 108 players took advantage of ideal scoring conditions to card some very low scores on Thursday at Pinecrest Golf Club.

A four-person scramble format was used and the foursome of Kevin Koppelmen, John Gose, Jason Cloud and Curtis Donovan were the A Flight Low Gross winners with a score of 55, after a match of cards with the team of Mark White, John Hoffman, Tim Coury and Tommy Todd, which finished first in Low Net with a score of 47.4

Gerry Bagdon, Joe Bullington, Joe Monahan and Danny Valderrama finished second in the Low Net division with a score of 50.2.

In the B Flight, the quartet of Jim Snively, Ron Oakley, Mike Whitney and Jan Valk finished first in Low Gross with a score of 60. Steve Riffle, George Pentuso, Chance Young and Lars Byland were Low Net winners with a 49 and Charlie Wilson, Sam Wilson, DeWayne Cliett and Nick Emanuel placed second in the Low Net division with a 49.1

Closest-to-the-pin winners were Heath Prescott on hole No. 12, Kip Goolsby on No. 5, Joe Monahan on No. 7 and Bill Barbour on No. 10.

Long drive winners were Matt Sullivan on hole No. 2, John Whitehead on No. 6, Edward Parker on No. 15 and Alex fells on No. 18.
