Tennis Winter Camp
SEBRING - Junior Tennis Winter Camp for kids runs through Feb. 28. All classes will be held at the Thakkar Tennis Center at The Country Club of Sebring. USPTA Certified Pro Horace Watkis will instruct all age levels. The cost for Tiny Tots (4-6) is $75 and classes will be held on Tuesdays from 3:15-4 p.m. The cost for Future Champs (6-12) is $90 and classes will be held Monday-Friday from 4-5 p.m. The cost for Pre-Tournament Academy (12-18) is $120 and will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5-6:30 p.m. All prices reflect eight weeks of classes. Eagles Golf Tourney
SEBRING - The Sebring Eagles No. 4240 is holding a golf tournament on March 1 at the Country Club of Sebring. The two-person scramble cost $60 per person and play begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The fee includes on-course refreshments and a BBQ rib dinner after the tournament concludes. There will be three different flights with cash prizes for all of them, as well as longest drive and closest to the pin contests for both men and women. Valentine's Tennis Tournament
SEBRING - The Highlands County Tennis Association will be holding its 20th annual Valentine's Tennis Tournament on the Thakkar Tennis Center clay courts. Cost is $30 for HCTA members and $40 non-members. Students can register for $15. Shriners Golf Scramble
AVON PARK - The Highlands Shrines will hold its annual golf scramble on Feb. 8 at Pinecrest Golf Club. The tournament opens at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. Cost is $55 per person and includes golf, one mulligan, lunch and prizes. The Cohan Radio Group is sponsoring a $2,000 hole-in-one. The scramble is limited to the first 36 foursome's. Purple Heart Golf Tourney
SEBRING - The Sebring Chapter 601 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart will hold its annual golf tournament on Feb. 15 at Pinecrest Golf Club. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:30. Cost is $55 per person and includes cart, on-course refreshments, and a post-tournament meal. The Cohan Radio Group is sponsoring a $2,000 hole-in-one prize. Trophies will be awarded to the 1st Place Foursome and for longest drive and closest to the pin winners. Door prizes are available a well, alongside a silent auction for four autographed Hall of Fame baseballs. All proceeds benefit local veterans through the Veterans Services Office. GOLS Indoor Soccer League
AVON PARK - The Goals Of Life & Soccer Indoor Soccer League is a co-ed league for youth aged 13-18. Registration is on Feb. 1 from 9 a.m.-Noon at the First Baptist Church of Avon Park. Cost is $12 and limited to the first 40 players. Each team plays one game a week on either Tuesday or Thursday at 6:30 p.m. from Feb. 11 to April 17. The season concludes with a tournament. Avon Park Rotary Golf Tournament
AVON PARK - The Rotary Club of Avon Park will hold its annual David "Doc" Owen Golf Tournament on Feb. 22 at Highlands Ridge North. The four-person scramble begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. Cost is $60 per person and includes golf, cart, on-course refreshments, prizes, and a post-golf meal in the club house. Closest to the pin and other contests, along with raffle prizes, are also available. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100. Make checks payable to Rotary Club of Avon Park. Lake Placid Youth Baseball
LAKE PLACID - Registration for Lake Placid's Dixie Youth Baseball and Softball 2014 spring seasons has started. The open draft will be held on Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. at Lake June Ballfields for ages 7-8 and 9-10 for baseball and 7-9 for softball. Any player not showing up for evaluation will be randomly placed on a team.
Ages for each league, T-ball (5 and under), 30/30 (5-6), baseball (7-8, 9-10), are reflective of the player's age as of Jan. 1. Cost is $60 per player for the T-ball and 30/30 leagues and $70 for baseball and softball. Registration forms can be found online at www.lpyb.net. Hammock Half Marathon and 5K Run/Walk
SEBRING - The sixth annual Hammock Half Marathon & 5K Run/Walk will be on Jan. 25 at 7:30 a.m. at Highlands Hammock State Park. This year's race will also feature a team relay made up of four individuals running 3.0-3.1 mile sections. The cost for the 5K is $20 through Jan. 17 and $30 through race day. Marathon fees are $35 through Jan. 17 and $45 after Jan. 18. Relay entry rates apply to all relay team members and should be submitted together with team name by Jan. 17. Race day registration will be from 6:45-7:10 a.m. The course winds through trails and roads, giving runners a chance to see unique areas of the park. Proceeds of the race will benefit the Friends of Highlands Hammock State Park.
