Golf tourneys in full swing

This time of year is packed with plenty of golf tournaments to participate in and Saturday had three events draw big fields.

The Wings of Faith Church tournament was held at Country Club of Sebring and the foursome of Rick Haas, Chris Dunn, Dan Eslinger and Jeff Gaddy finished first in the First Flight with a score of 61. Gil King, James Tommie, Jason Tommie and Maxie Tommie won the Second Flight with a 58 and the David McNeal Law Firm foursome won the Third Flight with a 62.

Closest-to-the-pin winners were Bonnie Lennox on hole No. 6, Rick Haas on No. 11 and Billy Joe Shannon on No. 17.

The long drive was won by Jason Guzik on hole No. 4.

The Nu-Hope tournament at River Greens golf course attracted 120 players and the First Flight was won by the team of Pete Delongchamp and partner Dave Schumacher with a 57, Tim Morway and Russ Rudd placed second at 60 and Mike Shawver and Keith Ruley were third at 61.

The Second flight was won by the dynamic duo of Jim Bellflower and Jay Bellflower with a 64, Dr. Steven Piccione and Curtis Donovan came in second with a 65 and Clay Davis and Linda Therrien finished third at 66 after a match of cards.

Jerry Miller and Jim Szelagowski won the Third Flight with a 71, Frank Fisher and Bon McMillian placed second at 72 after a match of cards with Chet Brojek and Jay Jones.

Mike London and Thom Jenkins won the Fourth Flight with a 72, Jim Cercy and Gil Heier came in second with a 73 after a match of cards with George Kelly and Rick Helms.

The Fifth Flight was won by Karl Mellor and David Mulligan with a score of 74 after a match of cards with Chuck Oates and Lyle Pontius and Don Spar and Pandora Harris were third at 75.

Closest-to-the-pin winners were Bernie Speaker on hole No. 3 and Lars Bylind on No. 12. Long drive went to Tim Devlin on No. 18 and Pat Dell stroked his way to victory in the putting contest.

The VFW Post 4300 golf tournament was held at Golf Hammock Country club and 128 players competed in a four-person scramble event.

The foursome of Charlie Cervantes, Nate Cervantes, Rob DeLong and Travis Bayder won the First Flight with a score of 54, while Gerry Clevenger, Barry Tupper, Wayne Hermans and Dale Bradley placed second at 55 and John Danko, Larry Miesner, Jeff Klingbiel and Arnie Klingbiel were third with a 58.

The Second Flight was won by Rick Burgess, Deb Burgess, Guy Knust and Rob Grimes with a 60, Glen Prehn, Jim Palmer, Brian Valentine and Eddie Guerin were second at 62 and Jim Bilowith, Butler Smith, Mike Parker and Nate Williams came in third with a 66 after a match of cards.

The foursome of Joe Hawkins, Bill Morgan, Gerald Lambert and Bob Wendt finished first in the Third Flight with a 59, Lee Markwell, Pam Button, Vera Martin and Dan Negro came in second at 66 after a match of cards with the team of Vern Hillier, Ron Hillier, Brenda Berti and Vera Leppek.
