Gators out in force to support Gallop

The Gators were out in full force last Saturday, as the Highlands County Gator Club held its fifth annual Gator Gallop 5K at Sun 'n Lake Preserve.

An enthusiastic crowd participated in the event, which is designed to raise funds for county students planning on attending the University of Florida.

Shawn Brown claimed the overall male title with a time of 20:58, while Regan Davenport led female runners with a time of 23:30.

Zachary Durastanti captured the male 20-and-under title with a time of 25:36, while Michael Divitro was second with a time of 27:57 and

Zander Durastanti was third in 30:35.

Kimber Harris placed first in the female 20-and-under class with a time of 29:09, followed by Brittany Whittington (39:11).

Rayon Williams was first in the male 21 to 30 class with a time of 21:30, followed by Damyan Byrd (22:39), Harold Campbell (24:44), Eric Marshall (27:12) and Micah Scanga (31:01).

Hilary Fiocca placed first in the female 21 to 30 group with a mark of 26:40, with Lauren Hrncirik (29:53) placing second, followed by Tammy Needham (31:06) and Erin Gercken (36:53).

Bert Cox was first in the male 31 to 40 class with a time of 22:29.35, followed by Joshua Vidderís time 30:10.

Corien Peavy placed first in the female 31 to 40 class with a time of 27:59, with Heather Mellow (33:02) placing second, followed by Amy Reed (34:43) and Andrea Wilhelm (36:36).

Ken Bazzel claimed bragging rights by winning the male 41 to 50 class in 22:29:79, with Dave Bazzel placing second in 27:16.

Paula Lunt placed first in the female 41 to 50 group with a time of 27:20, followed by Vicki Musselman (27:28), Kathy Santiago (27:32), Karin Doty (29:37), Jennifer Sarzynski (33:01), Tammy Jackson (34:55) and Judy Gerber (43:06).

Keith Carlton placed first in the male 51 to 60 grouping with a time of 25:47, with Randy Servern (27:55) placing second, followed by John Gose (35:51) and Nelson Pacheco (44:05).

Martie Brooker placed first in the female 51 to 60 division with a time of 35:50, with Ann Frakes (39:36) placing second and Shirley Whitsitt (42:59) placing third.

Dale Bargar placed first in the male 60-and-over classification, with Lois Hotchkiss placing first in the female 60-and-over group with a time of 35:14. Nel Walriven (42:55) placed second followed by Colleen Rafatti (47:10).

The next events on the local running calendar are the Heartland Triathlonís Motherís Day 5K at Highlands Hammock State Park on Saturday, May 11, followed by the Greater Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce 5K and 10K on Saturday, May 18.
