Dragons cruise past Bulldogs

Published:

The Lake Placid girls tennis team had no problems with DeSoto in Thursday's match.

The Green Dragons rolled to a convincing 7-0 win over the visiting Bulldogs as senior Hannah Waller knocked off DeSoto's Yaletza Palafox at No. 1 singles by a pro set score of 8-0 and senior Claire LeBlanc won her No. 2 singles match against Bulldog Viviana Maldonado by a score of 8-1.

Green Dragon junior Rachel Shattler blanked Elizabeth Reyes at No. 3 singles, 8-0, freshman Abigail Campbell outlatsed DeSoto's Bonie Evans at No. 4 singles, 8-2 and freshman Camille Shattler eased past Elizabeth Pacheco at No. 5 singles by a score of 8-2.

In No. 1 doubles, Waller and LeBlanc dominated Yaletza and Maldonado by a score of 80 and Rachel Shattler and Campbell won their No. 2 doubles match by a score of 3-0.

The rest of the No. 2 doubles match could not be completed because of rain.

The Lake Placid boys team was trailing DeSoto by a score of 3-1 when steady rain washed out the rest of play.

Lake Placid was winning one match and leading in another before play was stopped.

"We were coming back," said Lake Placid boys tennis coach Jason Holden. "It's too bad the rain started because our guys were starting to play better. I don't know if we're going to make the match up or not.

The Lake Placid boys beat Vanguard on Tuesday by a score of 6-1.

"Our guys are working hard to get better and we're looking forward to getting back on the tennis courts," Holden said."

The Green Dragon boys are back in action with a home match against Clewiston on Monday, while the Lake Placid girls are at Clewiston Monday.
