Woman accused of theft

Highlands Today Staff Report

The saying that “no good deed goes unpunished,” may well apply to a case that led to the arrest of an Avon Park woman, according to a warrant affidavit.

Joyce Ann Curry, 40, 317 W. Cornell St., Avon Park, was arrested April 29 and charged with third-degree grand theft.

The arrest came after a woman told authorities in March that a woman came to her door and asked for work because she was homeless and needed money, the report said.

She said she offered to pay the woman $20 for sweeping her floors, but noticed the woman was taking change, she told authorities. She also noticed that when the woman left jewelry valued at $800 was missing.

Curry remained in the Highlands County jail on $1,000 bond, as of press time.
