Wal-mart employee accused of theft

Published:

AVON PARK One of four former employees of Wal-Mart who are suspected of lowering prices excessively for other employees was arrested Thursday.

Cyrus Clay Stevenson, 18, 105 Wiggins Ave., Avon Park, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant. He was charged with petit theft and felony fraud involving less than $20,000.

The arrest came after the manager of the Wal-Mart in Avon Park reported she discovered four employees were giving discounts to others. Those discounts were larger than typically what would happen if Wal-Mart was matching a price of a competitor, the warrant said.

Stevenson was accused of doing $12.60 in price over-rides, while others did as much as $307, the warrant said.

Stevenson told authorities he received price over-rides or discounts from other employees and knew it was wrong, the warrant said.
