SEBRING - Two out of 21 stores failed a compliance check the Highlands County Sheriff's Office recently conducted to see if local establishments were illegally selling alcohol to minors, according to a Highlands County Sheriff's office news release.

Citgo, at 1409 U.S. 27 S., in Sebring, and BP, at 3901 US 27 N., also in Sebring, failed the check, the news release adds.

The clerks in these stores were cited and affidavits for the sale of an alcoholic beverage to a person under 21, which is a misdemeanor offense, where forwarded to the state attorney's office, the news release adds.

The Highlands County Sheriff's Office's Crime Suppression Team conducted the check Oct. 9.

"We are happy to report in 19 of the 21 stores visited, clerks checked ID and refused to sell alcohol to an underage person," the news release adds.
