SEBRING - A Facebook group that helps needy families wants to make Christmas special for 75 local children this year.
Secret Angels will have a car wash fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Auto Zone, 3711 U.S. 27 N, Sebring.
Monetary donations also will be taken during the car wash, and those who want can even drop off toys.
Group founder Beth Kelley Gollihue said the biggest need is for toys for teens. There also will be a baked sale, and if you have pennies you want to drop off, by all means do so, Gollihue said.
Their "Pennies for Presents" program is hoping to replenish some of the needed funds.
While Secret Angels has stopped taking more requests for Christmas presents until they have raised enough money to buy toys for the kids they plan to help, Gollihue hopes they can assist more children.
Along with the fundraisers, donation boxes for toys have been set up at two Dollar General stores in Sebring -one in north Sebring, 104 Tanglewood Drive; and the second one in downtown Sebring, 1540 Lakeview Drive, where the Save-A-Lot store also is located.
Master Cuts at Lakeshore Mall also has a donation box for both toys and monetary donations, Gollihue said.
"Just tell them it's for Secret Angels," she said.
The economy may be recovering, but it doesn't mean that people are back on their feet, Gollihue said.
She does not see the need slow down locally, and said everybody deserves a Christmas.
"People have got into a hole. The economy may be recovering, it doesn't mean people are," she said.
