AVON PARK - Authorities continued looking Tuesday for a man who robbed a convenience store in Avon Park Saturday night.

The suspect was described as a white/Hispanic male, about 6 feet tall with a bulky build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants, said Highlands County Chief Deputy Mark Schrader said in a press release.

The robbery occurred about 11:30 p.m. Sunday at the Sunoco convenience store, 999 U.S. 27, Avon Park, the press release said.

A clerk reported that as he was closing the business, he was robbed at knifepoint by a male who ordered him to open up the cash register and then get down and stay on the floor.

The robber, who spoke English and Spanish, fled after getting the cash, the clerk told deputies.

A Highlands County Sheriff's Office K-9 team searched the area, but did not locate the suspect, the release said.
