Suspect in robbery arrested

LAKE PLACID - A local man was arrested this morning in connection with a robbery that occurred at 140 St. Lucie St. in Sun 'N Lakes Lake Placid on Jan. 5, authorities said Thursday.

Alkheem Rasheed Portee, 18, 175 Curve St., Lake Placid, was arrested and charged with grand theft, armed robbery and illegal use of credit cards.

A victim had reported that he was walking on St. Lucie Street when a car stopped, a man got out and began chasing him, Nell Hays, public information officer for the Highlands County Sheriff's Office, said in a press release.

Hays said the victim was struck with a handgun and robbed.
