SPD: Wife involved in Thursday accident dies after husband's fatality from same crash

SEBRING - A second person has died from injuries in a four-car pileup that occurred Thursday on U.S. 27 between Flare and Hammock roads, authorities said Monday.

Barbara Gero, 54, of 110 Logan St., Sebring, died Saturday around 2 p.m. at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Sebring Police Department Cmndr. Steve Carr said Monday.

Her husband, Francis Gero, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Plattsburg Press Republic, the Geros were from AuSable Forks, N.Y., and had left their home Oct. 23 to spend time at their Florida home before returning up North to spend Christmas with their family.

Their vehicle was struck by another vehicle, authorities said.

Investigation is still ongoing, Carr added.
