SPD: Driver hits utility pole, knocks out power

Published:

— A driver apparently swerved Saturday night to avoid hitting an animal and ended up striking a power pole, knocking out power for several hours for more than 1,000 residents, authorities said Monday.

A Sebring Police Department report said the accident occurred near the intersection of Sebring Parkway and Fairmount Court.

Two passengers in the vehicle said they saw an animal run in front of the vehicle at the time of the accident, a report said.

A witness later heard an animal whimpering near the scene, the report said.

One passenger, Daniel Rangel-Rojas, 30, Ruskin, was taken to Florida Heartland Hospital for treatment, the report said.

All three people in the vehicle said they did not know who was driving it at the time of the accident, the report said.
