AVON PARK - A 911 call concerning a baby in a car at the Marathon gas station in Avon Park Tuesday morning led to misinformation that a baby had died.
Highlands County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Nell Hays said in reference to the rumor of a death of a baby at the Marathon station, it turned out to be the death of a child who was 11 years old.
"There was nothing suspicious," she said. "The child was not well."
The 911 call came in at 9:51 a.m. from 3 U.S. 27 N., Avon Park, Hays said.
The child lived in Lake Placid, she said.
