Skywarn spotter training slated

Published:   |   Updated: June 25, 2014 at 03:22 PM

— The National Weather Service in Ruskin will hold Skywarn training at 3 p.m. Friday at the Bert J. Harris Jr. Agri-Civic Center, Conference Room 2, 4509 W. George Blvd.

A trained Skywarn spotter knows the weather threats in Florida, safety rules and visual clues regarding thunderstorm strength, and reports hazardous weather to the National Weather Service to help with the warning process. You can attend the training even if you do not want to be an official spotter.

It is open to everyone, but you must be at least 18 years old to receive a Skywarn ID.

For information, go to http://weather.gov/tampa/?n=skywarn.
