Early childhood education workshops planned

AVON PARK - South Florida State College's Corporate and Community Education Department is offering early childhood education workshops for the spring 2014 term.

Participants will receive 0.2 hours of CEUs for each completed workshop.

In "Positive Discipline: Me Do It," participants learn why positive discipline tools are essential to resolve conflicts with young children.

It will be offered 6-8 p.m. Feb. 27. Cost is $25 and the CRN is 21619.

In "Family Involvement: The More We Work Together," participants will learn why developing a strong relationship with families in early childhood benefits children, school staff and families. It will be held 6-8 p.m. March 27. Cost is $25, and the CRN is 21621.

In "Rainy Day Activities: Let's Get Creative," participants will learn how to explore simple, fun and educational activities that add sunshine to gloomy days. It will be offered 6-8 p.m. April 14. Cost is $25, and the CRN is 21622.

Television dancers, singers coming to SFSC

AVON PARK - SFSC Performing Arts is continuing to celebrate its 30th Artist Series season with a showcase of spectacular dancing.

"Ballroom with a Twist" features dance pros from television's "Dancing With the Stars," finalists from "So You Think You Can Dance" and live vocals from "American Idol" finalists at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13 in the Theatre for the Performing Arts.

Featured will be "Dancing With the Stars" dance pros Sasha Farber and Emma Slater, "So You Think You Can Dance" finalists Randi Lynn Strong and Legacy, and "American Idol" finalists Gina Glocksen and Von Smith.

Ballroom with a Twist brings a "frenzy of sizzling dance moves by professional international dancers spanning the hot moves of samba, waltz, foxtrot, quickstep and jive," states a news release.

"As if the jaw-dropping dancers aren't enough to keep you ogling at smooth moves and high kicks, two of your favorite "American Idol" finalists will also be joining the bill with powerhouse hit songs," it adds.

Tickets are $30, $35 and $42. They are available for purchase at www.performances.south florida.edu or at the SFSC Box Office. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
