Report: Yard sale for jail bond has stolen items

Published:

— A Highlands County woman held a yard sale, apparently to help someone get out of jail on bond, according to a report released Thursday.

The only problem, the report said, was she ended up being arrested after some of the items in the sale were reported stolen, the arrest report said.

Jonie Lee Juarez, 37, no current address given, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office and charged with third-degree grand theft and dealing in stolen property.

The arrest came after a man reported on June 24 that about $15,000 worth of goods owned by him were removed from a home at Lake Josephine Drive, Sebring, the report said. Those included a flower pot with a rare plant, an above-ground pool, and ladders.

Later, some of those items were discovered at another residence where a woman told authorities she purchased them from Juarez.

That woman and another told authorities they purchased the items from Juarez, who was holding a garage sale to help get someone out of jail on bond. The report is not clear on the identity of that person.
