Publix marks fundraising goal in a fun way

SEBRING- Sebring's Publix Southgate store manager, John Wentworth, told his employees he would shave his head if the store reached its goal for the 2013 United Way campaign.

Friday, Wentworth went home bald. Also, assistant store manager, Jeff Anderson, shaved his mustache, and assistant customer service manager, Donna Pryce, became a good sport and took a few pies in the face from the employees.

The store raised $26,812.14.

Publix is the largest contributor to United Way campaign in Highlands County, said Highlands County United Way director Kristin Handley. Publix Charities give a 75 percent match to all employee donations, she said.

In 2012 campaign, the three stores in Highlands County raised $139,260

United Way in Highlands County provides funding for 22 programs at 17 non profit agencies here in the community.
