LP High scrimmage football game

— The Lake Placid High School Dragons will play their Green and White scrimmage game at 7 p.m. tonight at Scarborough Field, 438 Dal Hall Blvd.

Admission is $2.

SATURDAY

Arc’s nursery open

— Ridge Area Arc’s Plant Nursery will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. It is open the third Saturday each month.

The nursery, located at 120 W. College Drive, is made possible through Arc’s partnership with South Florida State College.

Henscratch Grape Stomp

— Henscratch Farms’ 14th annual Grape Stomp will take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

There will be music, food and grape stomping.

Annual AP picnic reunion on tap

— The 8th Annual Avon Park Covered Dish Picnic Reunion will be held at noon Saturday at the Avon Park Community Center, sponsored by the Avon Park Historical Society.

Downtown sidewalk sale

— The Downtown Community Sidewalk Sale will be held 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the Circle.

Masons plan Child ID event

— Masonic District 25 will hold a free Child ID event for children up to 18 years old 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Wells Fargo Bank, 3635 U.S. 27 N.

You will receive a CD with your child’s pictures, as well as voice, fingerprints and DNA information in case of an emergency.

Dance to benefit Humane Society

— In an effort to aid the Humane Society of Highlands County, the Tanglewood Dance Committee will collect donations of canned and dry dog and cat food, cat litter and dog treats during its dance 7-10 p.m. Saturday. Lora Patton will be the featured singer.

Admission is $6 for non-residents and $4 for residents. BYOB; ice will be provided.

Rick Arnold playing fundraiser at Moose lodge

— Moose Lodge 2259 on U.S. 98 will welcome Rick Arnold in the social quarters at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The Women of the Moose are in the midst of a fundraising drive for Mooseheart’s Right Child – Right Start. Arnold will join in the endeavor to play dance music of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s.

An “Ice Cream Social Basket” consisting of everything needed to make your favorite sundaes, cones,or sodas and will be raffled Aug. 23. The fundraiser is chaired by Carol Cook representing the Academy of Friendship.

AMVET Ladies’ chili dog dinner

— AMVETS Post 21 Ladies Auxiliary will host a chili dog dinner for $5 from 5-7 p.m. Saturday.

BilDi will provide karaoke 6-9 p.m.

The post is at the corner of Hammock Road and U.S. 27.

Don West, Silver Eagle Band to play

— Don West and the Silver Eagle Band will play classic country music 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the Highlands Social Center, 3400 Sebring Parkway.

Admission is $5. BYOB.

Hawaiian luau dance planned

— The Lake Placid Ballroom Dancers will be turning the Lake Placid Elks Lodge into a “Paradise Island” Hawaiian luau 6:30-9 p.m. Saturday.

Allen will provide music and there will be special entertainment at intermission featuring the LPBD Hula Dancers.

The Kinga Kanteen will have homemade Island Soup, Hawaiian hot dogs, Maui chili and Don Ho hot pretzels.

Admission is $5 for LPBD members and $7 for non-members. The Elks lodge is on County Road 621, behind Winn Dixie.

SUNDAY

Annual Highway Park fun day slated

— The 12th Annual Highway Park Community Fun Day will start at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Highway Park Community Star Center Complex in Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 141 Josephine Ave.

It is sponsored by the Hiway Park Businessmen Association Inc. (Frank Branch Jr. and Selvin McGahee), and the Highway Park Community STAR Program.

There will be free hot dogs, hamburgers and music, as well as information on upcoming events and school supply distribution.

Donation of school supplies are being accepted 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Star Center.
