SEBRING - A garage sale sponsored by New Beginnings Church will be held at 8 a.m. today and Saturday at 4936 Oak Circle.

There will be a large variety of household items, books and plants.

Eye Specialists holding free screenings

SEBRING - Eye Specialists of Mid Florida are hosting a "Give Back to the Community" event 3-6 p.m. today at 5032 U.S. 27 N.

There will be free vision screenings for ages 3 and up, free ice cream, fun and games.

Moose Lodge hosting Halloween party

SEBRING - Sebring Moose Lodge 2259 on U.S. 98 will hold its Halloween Party at 5 p.m. tonight. There are a few seats left. Ham dinner is available for $10 per person, or $15 per couple. See the bartenders for food tickets. Cash prizes for best costumes will be given and music will be provided by Larry Musgrave.

Members and their guests are welcome.

Street party planned in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID - Merchants along Interlake Boulevard will host a street party 6-9 p.m. tonight.

DJ Justin Morris and singers, along with more than 30 businesses will participate with sidewalk sales and event specials. Demonstrations will be given by the fire department, police K-9 unit, dragsters, boats, off-road vehicles, classic cars and trucks.

Vendors will include those selling fruits and vegetables. There will be games, clowns, face painting and cheerleaders.

The annual chili cook-off will also be held during this event.

A portion of Interlake Boulevard between Oak and Magnolia avenues will be closed to permit pedestrian traffic.

Line dance to benefit food bank

SEBRING - The Tanglewood Line Dancers will host a dance 6-9 p.m. tonight in the clubhouse. All proceeds will benefit the local food bank.

Admission is $2 and a 50/50 drawing will be held. Guests and residents are welcome.

Dance club hosting Chrissy

SEBRING - The Highlands Social Dance Club will host the music of Chrissy from 7-9:30 p.m. tonight at the Highlands Social Center, 3400 Sebring Parkway.

Chrissy entertains with songs from the '50s and '60s, country, and rhythm and blues.

Snacks and sandwiches will be available; BYOB.

Dress should be smart-casual. Admission is $5 for members and $7 for non-members. Everyone is welcome, including singles.

SEBRING - The Highlands Art League will present the 47th Annual Highlands Fine Arts and Crafts Festival 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on the Circle.

The festival will feature unique and talented artists from all over the U.S., food vendors, children's activities and much more.

First Saturday breakfast slated

AVON PARK - The Avon Park First Saturday Breakfast will be served 8-10:30 a.m. every first Saturday, November through April 5, at Christ Lutheran Church, 1320 C.R. 64 E. (Main Street).

The menu will include fresh pancakes, scrambled eggs, hash browns and sausage. Homemade breakfast casseroles and sticky buns will be available while supplies last.

Cost is $5 for one serving.

Sebring Mobile Estates breakfast

SEBRING - Sebring Mobile Estates, 4108 Kenilworth Blvd., will host a country breakfast 7-9:30 a.m. Saturday.

The menu will include pancakes, eggs, home fries, sausage, biscuits and gravy, orange juice, coffee and milk.

Donations will be made to Feed the Hungry and the Highlands County Humane Society.

Fall Mega Sale at SFSC

AVON PARK - South Florida State College's Association of Florida Colleges chapter will hold its Sixth Annual Fall Mega Sale 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the SFSC Citrus Center parking lot. The public is welcome to shop for treasures and food.

The AFC is the professional association for Florida's 28 community and state colleges, their boards of trustees, employees, retirees and associates. AFC actively promotes, represents, supports and serves the individual members and institutions in their endeavors to provide their students and the citizens of Florida with the best possible comprehensive community and state college educational system.

Democrats plan hoe down

SEBRING - The Highlands County Democratic Party will hold a hoe down 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the Sebring Women's Club, 4260 Lakeview Drive.

Barbecue, Toe Jam Band at Our Lady of Grace

AVON PARK - Our Lady of Grace will host a barbecue pork dinner with music by the California Toe Jam Band on Saturday at the Grogan Center, 595 E Main St.

Food will be served 5-6:30 p.m., with music 5-7 p.m. Cost is $12 per person. Proceeds will go to the church's scholarship fund.

SEBRING - Sebring Elks 1529 will host a breakfast buffet open to the public 8:30 a.m. to noon Sunday.

Cost is $7 which includes eggs your way, sausage gravy and biscuits, ham, bacon, pancakes, fried potatoes, French toast, fruit, orange juice, tomato juice, coffee and tea.

DeMolay to serve spaghetti lunch

SEBRING - The Young Men of the DeMolay will host a spaghetti lunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sebring Masonic Lodge, 1809 Home Ave.

Cost is a $7 donation which includes salad, spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread, dessert and beverage.

Takeout is available. The public is invited.

Moose Lodge plans jam session

SEBRING - Moose Lodge 2259 on U.S. 98 will hold a jam session 5-8 p.m. Sunday.

Steve Baker and friends will be entertaining and there will be wing baskets available. Happy hour will be available during the NASCAR race and NFL package games.
