Looking for something to do this weekend? Here's what is going on around the county.

TodayVFW post hosting haunted house fundraiser

AVON PARK - Avon Park VFW Post 9853 will have its Haunted House 6-9 p.m. tonight and Saturday, as well as Oct. 25-26.

The project raises money for local vets. Cost is $3. The post is located at 75 N. Olivia Drive.

YMCA hosting annual Spooktacular

SEBRING - The Highlands County Family YMCA will host its annual Halloween Spooktacular 6-9 p.m. tonight and Saturday.

There will be games, candy, a haunted house, dunk tank, cake walk for kids and adults, a chance to have photos taken with people dressed up in Halloween costumes, face painting, Spook Train and refreshments.

Entry is $3 per person; kids 2 and under enter free.

AP schools hosting Harvest Festival on Main

AVON PARK - Park and Avon Elementary Schools will once again host the Harvest Festival On Main Street 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Activities will be nostalgic, as the schools will resurrect the Costume Parade Down Main Street similar to one held years ago.

Students interested in participating in the parade should line up for judging at 9 a.m. behind Jacaranda Hotel. The parade will then proceed down Lake Avenue and turn onto Main Street, ending at Donaldson Park for more festival fun.

The Harvest Festival will include bounce houses, pony rides, lots of games and vendors. Most activities will be included in an $8 arm band. Food will also be available for purchase.

Proceeds will go toward purchasing books and supplies for the two schools. For more information, call Park Elementary at 452-4373.

Everything Outdoor Expo on tap

SEBRING - Spurlow's Everything Outdoors Expo will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Highlands Today Center with national and local vendors associated with hunting, fishing, camping, door prizes, raffles, concealed carry classes, gun show and sales, and much more.

Admission is free.

Zumba party to benefit Samaritan's Touch

SEBRING - A Zumba Party charity event will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Sebring Women's Club, 4260 Lakeview Drive.

All proceeds will be donated to Samaritan's Touch Care Center to support mammograms for women in Highlands County. Pink should be worn.

Registration and information booths will be set up 5-6 p.m. Hey Mr. DJ will provide music.

Zumba instructors include Andrea Hardy-Stanford, Sonya Chavez, Laura VanFleet, Fatima LaGrow, Martiza Sota-Christiansen and Judy Bryan.

Masons to serve pork dinner

LAKE PLACID - Placid Masonic Lodge No. 282 F&AM, 201 N. Main Ave., will hold a pulled pork dinner 4-7 p.m. Saturday.

Dinner will consist of pulled pork, coleslaw, baked beans, roll, drink and dessert for $8.

SEBRING - Don West and the Silver Eagle Band will perform live country music 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the Highlands Social Center, 3400 Sebring Parkway.

Tanglewood line dance to benefit food bank

SEBRING - The Tanglewood Line Dancers will host a line dance 6-9 p.m. tonight in the clubhouse.

Admission is $2 and all guests and residents are welcome. Proceeds will benefit the local food bank.

Commotion playing at Tap Room

AVON PARK - Commotion Band will perform 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday at The Tap Room, 205 Main St.

The band plays a variety of classic rock and dance music.

Masons serving barbecue lunch

SEBRING - Sebring Masonic Lodge No. 249 will serve an all-you-can-eat barbecue chicken lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday for an $8 donation.

The menu includes chicken, coleslaw, baked beans, potato salad, dessert and beverage.

The Rainbow Girls will be selling baked items. The public is invited; takeout orders are available.

The lodge is located on the corner of Home Avenue and Sebring Parkway.
