SEBRING - The Highlands County YMCA will host the Sebring Aglow Back to School Bash for needy children entering kindergarten through fifth grade from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Free school supplies will be available, as well as food, entertainment, praise, worship and singing.

Toe Jam Band to hold benefit concert
AVON PARK - The California Toe Jam Band will perform a benefit concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Grogan Center, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 595 E. Main St.
Tickets are $5 and available at the church office or Heartland National Bank in Avon Park and Sebring.
If not sold out, tickets will be available at the door.
All proceeds will benefit the Jade Jackson Fund.
Tanglewood dance for Humane Society
SEBRING - Tanglewood will host a dance to benefit the Humane Society of Highlands County 7-10 p.m. Saturday, with music by Joyce Boivan.
Bring donations of dry dog, cat food or cat litter. Those who bring a 3-pound or larger bag will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant.
Admission is $4 for residents with badges and $6 for nonresidents.
Bring your own beverages and snacks.
Ballroom dancers slate Hawaiian luau
LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid Ballroom Dancers will host a Hawaiian luau 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the Lake Placid Elks Lodge, 200 C.R. 621 E., behind Winn-Dixie.
There will be a free dance lesson 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the lounge, with an instructional tape. Open to everyone, this will be a simple format, one step at a time.
The Ladies of the Elks will open their snack bar at 6 p.m. with sandwiches, chips and hot dogs.
Allen Warchak will be the musician, and there will be prizes and surprises. Hula hoop and limbo contests will be held at intermission.
The public is invited and singles are welcome. Admission is $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers.
Highway Park Community Fun Day
LAKE PLACID - The 11th Annual Highway Park Community Fun Day will start at 3 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Highway Park Community Star Center Complex, 141 Josephine Ave., sponsored by Frank Branch Jr., Selvin and the Star Center.
There will be free hot dogs and hamburgers, music and haircuts for boys for a $2 donation. Activities will include a parent workshop with information about upcoming events at the Star Center and a school supply distribution.

Masons serving all-you-can-eat barbecue
SEBRING - Sebring Masons Lodge 249 will serve an all-you-can-eat barbecue chicken lunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
The menu includes coleslaw, baked beans, potato salad, dessert and beverage. Cost is $8.
The public is invited and takeout orders are available.
