LAKE PLACID - A 57-year-old pedestrian who was hit by a truck in Lake Placid on the evening of Thanksgiving Day has died from his injuries, authorities said.

The Lake Placid police have identified the 57-year-old man as Nicolas Juarez, of Lake Placid, Lake Placid Police Chief James Fansler said in an email.

Juarez was struck by a truck driven by Jesus Ochoa Artega, 55, as he walked south on the intersection of South Main and Payson avenues towards U.S. 27, authorities said. Witnesses told the Lake Placid police that Juarez walked into the path of Artega's truck.

Juarez succumbed to his injuries on Friday at Lee Memorial Hospital after being transported from Florida Hospital Lake Placid.

This is the fourth fatal crash in Lake Placid so far this year, Fansler said.
