Pedestrian killed crossing U.S. 27

SEBRING - A 74-year-old Sebring man was struck and killed by a pickup truck early Monday morning while he was crossing U.S. 27.

The Sebring Police Department reports that Richard David Kohler, of 2010 Village Grove Blvd., Apt. 115, was killed in the accident on U.S. 27, south of Village Grove Boulevard (near the Sebring Diner).

The accident was reported at 1:26 a.m.

Joseph Michael Aldana, of Lake Placid, was driving a 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck northbound on U.S. 27 approaching Village Grove Boulevard when he saw a man, walking alongside of a bicycle, crossing the highway in front of him, the report states. Aldana said he tried to avoid a collision by applying his brakes and turning left, but the front right area of the grill/hood of his truck struck the pedestrian.

Aldana reported that Kohler was crossing from the north (wooded area) of U.S. 27 and crossing toward the median, the report shows.

Kohler died at the scene of the accident, the report shows.

The report states that Detective Michael Hirsch is continuing the investigation.
