Pedestrian, 51, struck by car, dies Friday night

SEBRING-A 51-year-old Sebring resident was killed late Friday night after being struck by a Mercury Grand Marquis on U.S.27 south of Grand Prix Drive in Sebring while trying to cross the road, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.

John Thomas Miners, 60, of Avon Park, was going in the center lane of southbound U.S. 27, and Jacqueline Faith Garten, who was crossing the road, came into Miners' direct path, the FHP reports.

Miners didn't have any injuries but Garten sustained fatal injuries, authorities

The accident happened at 11:24 p.m. The accident is believed to be alcohol-related, the FHP adds.
