Missing 12-year-old returns unharmed, SO says

SEBRING-A 12-year-old who was reported missing from her home in Spring Lake early Monday morning returned home unharmed, authorities said.

At about 3 a.m. Monday, the Highlands County Sheriff's Office Central Dispatch received a call that the girl was missing from her home on Candler Terrace in Spring Lake, a news release states.

Deputies searched the area with the help of K-9 units and the Polk County Sheriff's Office helicopter, the news release adds.

After more than two hours, the girl returned home and was located in the backyard.

The Highlands County Sheriff's Office Special Victim's Unit is investigating why the juvenile left home, authorities add. No further details are available.
