Minor injuries in two-vehicle accident

Published:

One person was injured in a two-vehicle accident around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the northbound lanes of U.S. 27 just south of the Sparta Road intersection. According to a Sebring Police report, Otho Allen Barber, 38, of Wauchula was taken to Highlands Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. He was driving a 2007 Chevrolet minivan and towing an all-terrain vehicle, which was struck from behind by a 2005 Dodge pickup truck driven by Daniel Thomas Fisher, 26, of Sebring. Both drivers stated that a red vehicle cut across the lanes of northbound U.S. 27 into the path of the Chevrolet, which caused Barber to brake suddenly. Fisher was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the trailer, according to the police report. Fisher was cited for following too closely, but the report states that the red vehicle, which Barber reported was a Mitshubishi, is a contributor to the accident for failure to yield to the right of way of the Chevrolet. Barber said the Mitshubishi turned left onto Sparta Road and left the area. The report noted the road was wet.
