STR8 Up to host Congressman Rooney at inaugural event

LAKE PLACID - STR8 UP Youth Ministry will hold its Inaugural Memorial Day Celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The community is invited to partake in free hot dogs and hamburgers, music, a water slide for youth, fellowship and a flag dedication with American Legion Post 25.

Congressman Tom Rooney will address the community and local fire and police departments, as well as other civic organizations, will be on hand.

Lakeview Memorial Gardens slats service

AVON PARK - Lakeview Memorial Gardens, 854 Memorial Drive, will hold a Memorial Day service to honor our nation's veterans at 9 a.m. Monday.

American Legion Post 25 lunch, entertainment

LAKE PLACID - American Legion Post 25 will celebrate Memorial Day on Monday with a half chicken, potato salad and baked beans lunch 2-4 p.m. and entertainment by Big Freddie from 3-5 p.m.

Cost is $8 per person. The public is invited.

Lake Placid Elks hosting ceremony

LAKE PLACID - A Memorial Day ceremony is slated for 11 a.m. Monday at the Lake Placid Elks Lodge, 200 C.R. 621 E., behind Winn Dixie.

The opening flag ceremony and taps will be presented by the Lake Placid High School ROTC. Marti Capodiferro will provide a patriotic medley, followed by guest speaker Lt. Col. Paul Neidhardt, commander of Avon Park Air Force Range.

The public is invited.

Atonement Lutheran slates 'Salute to Our Veterans'

SEBRING - Atonement Lutheran Church, 1178 Lakeview Drive, will host a Memorial Day Salute to Our Veterans Picnic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday.

After an opening prayer, posting of colors by the Sebring High School ROTC and pledge of allegiance, the speakers will be the Rev. A.C. Bryant and the Rev. Darrell Peer.

Free food and games will be available for all ages.

AMVETS Post 21 to honor vets

SEBRING - AMVETS Post 21, located at the corner of U.S. 27 and Hammock Road, will hold a Memorial Day even honoring fallen military comrades and service animals at 10 a.m. Monday.
